Michigan House District 9 · Detroit

We Deserve More

I'm Arthur Harrington, a lifelong Detroiter running for State Representative in the 9th District. We deserve safer neighborhoods, good jobs, strong schools, and a city that works for all of us.

I'm fighting for safe neighborhoods.

For Detroit. For District 9. For all of us.

We Deserve More

Where I stand

I'm running because the people of District 9 deserve a representative who fights for what we actually need. Here's where I stand, and what I'll go to work on in Lansing.

01

Safe Neighborhoods

Safety comes from investment, not just enforcement. I'll fund community violence intervention, real opportunities and mentorship for our young people, and the mental health and reentry services that prevent crime before it happens. Every family in our district deserves to feel safe on their own block.

02

Good Jobs and Lower Costs

Working families here are doing everything right and still falling behind. I'll fight for fair wages and good jobs, expand the Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit to put money back in working people's pockets, and stand with the small businesses that hire our neighbors. The wealth that leaves this city should come back to the people who built it.

03

Strong Public Schools

Every child in our district deserves a fully funded public school. I'll fight the policies that drain money out of our classrooms, expand access to college and the skilled trades, and make sure our young people can build their future right here in Detroit.

04

Reliable Public Transit

Too many of us lose hours, or lose jobs, waiting on a bus that never comes. I'll fight for transit that's affordable and dependable, and that connects us to work, school, and the doctor. In a city this size, getting around should not be this hard.

05

Clean Air and Water

Detroit families breathe some of the dirtiest air in the state, and that's no accident. I'll stand up to the polluters in our neighborhoods, fight for clean air and water as a basic right, and bring good green jobs and renewable energy investment to the 9th District.

06

Affordable Homes, No Displacement

As our neighborhoods grow, the families who held this district together can't be the ones pushed out. I'll fight for tenant protections, anti-displacement policy, and real investment in affordable housing, so longtime Detroiters can stay and build in the city they love.

Meet Arthur

Rooted here. Running for us.

A Detroit story

I'm Arthur Harrington, and I'm a proud, lifelong Detroiter running to represent the 9th District in the Michigan House.

I graduated from Cass Technical High School, then earned my degree in Political Science from Hampton University, finishing a year ahead of schedule. Today I'm a law student at Wayne State University, building the skills I'll put to work for the people of this district.

A life in public service

I started on Capitol Hill in Washington, where I learned how policy gets made and who it too often leaves behind. Then I came home to serve Detroit. I served on Detroit City Council staff, worked to protect fair and accessible elections at the Department of Elections, and completed the City of Detroit Mayoral Fellowship under Mayor Mike Duggan. For that work I was honored with the Spirit of Detroit Award and named a Moguls in the Making awardee. In the final days of the 2024 election, I was proud to speak at the Get Out the Vote rally for Vice President Kamala Harris.

We deserve more, and I'm ready to fight for it.

My Vision

Detroit's 9th District has always been a place of resilience, talent, and possibility. I'm running for a district where every family has good jobs and fair wages, where our neighborhoods are safe and supported, where our students have what they need to succeed, and where clean air and clean water are rights, not privileges. Detroiters deserve a seat at the table and a voice in Lansing that fights for them every single day. Strong communities start with bold leadership, and I'm ready to lead.
